Cool fuel usage after new plugs

I've had new plugs fitted by my local ford dealer while it was in for a new alternator so killing 2 birds etc but now it seems my fuel consumptions gone down quite a bit I used to get around 400miles to the tank on average now its down to 300-320 I've had them out to check the gap (1.3mm) and they are sooty so its running on the rich side have they used the wrong plugs or could something else be wrong? any ideas??

If the dealer did them and something is wrong then I think a quiet word in the service ear as to what are they going to do to put it right
