Just a heads up to let other person's know of this issue..
Due to the weather, wife's c-max hardly used in a fortnight, but when she went to go out on friday the battery was flat so she calls me and asks me to bring home jump leads. When i get home, jump start car and give it a fair run to recharge the battery.. got home, switched car off only to find that the battery was still flat.. unable to do anything due to darkness so wait until saturday to check battery.. Found that the battery positive terminal has cracked clean through therfore not gripping the battery post tight enough.. clamped it with mole grips and car now starts ok.
I have no idea how this terminal has suddenly become broken.. the car is 3 yrs old but has only covered 4k mls.Anyway part now ordered for delivery on tuesday so will be ok then.
For your information the ford finis code is 1386881 and price is 14.62 +vat so not too bad
As i say, the car had all the symptoms of a flat battery, so if you come across this make sure your terminals are not cracked/broken

Not directly related but my battery was very low and would not start the car. As it tried to turn over the headlights came on and off every time the starter struggled with the compression even though the lights were switched off, very strange I put it down to the very low voltage upsetting something.

Anyway I decided to change the battery as I had no idea of how old it was. If anyone is interested this is how it came out.

Remove small cover over +ve terminal
Remove top cover over battery
Remove cover around the front of the battery, several large cables are attached to this and need to be removed from their clips first you need a long screwdriver to release the clip that holds it down at the lower front
Remove battery hold down strap a 10mm long reach socket helps
Remove +ve terminal, I know I thought you removed the -ve first but its under the wipers and hard to get at
Lift battery out by tilting it up at the front until you can reach the -ve terminal then remove that

Clean terminals and refit new battery in the reverse order.

Job done ........... the doctor says my back should be back to normal in the New Year.
