Hello all, following my recent problems I am thinking of getting a code reader. I have seen a few on ebay but am unsure what type I need. Can anybody recommend one please....

Best regards,
Chris Ryan.

I'm not sure on code readers but one that company that springs to mind is Gendon think they do code readers for VW and Fords for about 40 IIRC.

This also works for iPod touch.

Will try to make a small review of it in use in a C-Max 05 2.0 TDCiEdited by: JonV

Get a Elm327 off ebay. Looks like a little grey box. I had one and works well on mine.

The code descriptions can easily be gotten off Google by just typing them in. I've yet to see a site that lists every single one.

I have a Memoscan CAN OBD II U581 scanner
It is brilliant, once plugged in,it will ask for car make, then once it`s logged in to the car,it will give you the cars id (vin).
After that you can read any fault codes or cancell any if you need/want to.
It cost me 65 from e-bay.

As for obd II codes,I use this site.I know it`s American but the codes are relavent to us too.

www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ford

I also have these codes downloaded so if any one wants them,pm me an e-mail address & I can forward them on to you.

I don`t regret getting mine.
My brother in law borrowed it when he went to look at a VW Polo.He found the cars id was different to the one that came up on the code reader. He did not say anything but did inform the Poloice. They have arrested the seller on car cloning charges.
