Hi there ford focus ppl. MIne is a ford focus 1.6tdci ghia, with an annoying problem, well 2 annoying problems, the 1st is when i stop ie lights on red or in a queue with engine running, I get a strong smell of exhaust coming thruough the air vents, when i put the air flow to recycle, it goes away but as you know the car will start to steam up. I have taken the car to a garage, they did find the turbo intercooler pipe not on properly, but the smell is still there and very strong, the 2nd problem is now and again no given indication the car suddenly loses power, nothing more irritating when you go to overtake a lorry, you press the throttle down and nothing, it doesn't rev or do anything, its like its on tick over, then eventually it will pick up and go. Again I took it to a garage with a ford diagnostic machine and it came up with a code p1380 which I checked on the codes for ford and it came up with variable timing solenoid a malfunction, is this expensive? please help me ppl

Would suggest
the exhaust smell might be a small leak in the front section of the exhaust pipe
the lack of throttle response may be the variable resistance sensor on the throttle (not certain of price)

many thanks for your reply, I found the problem, I have an injector not seating correctly and its blowing from there right under the windscreen, apparently quite common with the focus
