Morning all - bit of a dilemma this morning - been loking for a new car for a few weeks and have fallen in love with two C-Max'sfrom two diff garages
First one is an 04 plate 1.6 Zetec diesel which has done just over 83,0000 miles (hope thats not to many 0000's) - garage offering me the car for 4000
Second C-max is an 06 plate 1.6 zetec petrol thats done just over 41,0000 (again hope thats enough 0000's) dealer wants just over 6000.

Drove both cars yesterday and my gut instinct is the 04 diesel as it was a smoother more comfortable drive. After running it by friends and family for a second opinion they all comment on the high mileage of the 04 plate and the fact its now coming up for 6 year old.

I have to make a decision by end of today as to what car I go for so any words of wisdom would be greatly appreaciated folks.
Cheers Matt

I bought one last week, a 1.6 petrol Zetec on an 06 plate. Really low mileage, only 21,000 and ex-motability, so I know it's been looked after with full service history.

I used to have a diesel car before this one, and didn't like the loud-sounding engine.

My new C-Max is lovely and quiet in comparison!

It all depends on what you're most interested in - how the car sounds, fuel economoy, how much you're will to spend.

milage isnt everything, if the car has full service history and drives well, then 83k for a diesel isnt much. The tax should be cheaper, and also being a diesel it will be better on fuel. The petrol one sounds expensive to me, i just bought a 2005 2.0 tdci ghia with 28,000 mile, 1 years warrenty for 6800, so the fact that the one you are looking at is a petrol and a lower model, i would have thought that you could find one cheaper than that.

just looked on auto trader, and there are a few cmax 1.6 zetecs with similar miles to the one you are looking at starting at 6000, so im sure you could get at least| 500 off, so really i would say that you should be looking at 5500 for a 1.6 zetec on a 55/06 plate with low miles

there are various comments about the economy of the petrol with especially the high engine speed at motorway limit due to the gearing
If the diesel is below the 130 gramme CO2 limit then the Tax from April should be comming down to 90 from the present 120 (I'm expecting ours to)
the mileage of the diesel is still less than 15K per year which seems to be getting close to the average so it may have done quite a few motorway miles
Do you know the history of any changes / repairs to the diesel fuel system & EGR components
You might also like to trawl through the previous posts in respect of the difference in MPG
