HI im a newbie have just traded a 1.4 scenic fidji for a 1.6tdci lx cmax 54plate with 59k on clock, drives better than the scenic more comfortable driving position, only cobcern at moment is mpg have done 72miles on 1/4 of a tank around town driving 10mile commute to work is this normal seems rather a lot of fuel for the miles.

Have you checked the actual fuel used or are you going just by the gauge reading
You ought to be getting at least 45 MPG just about whatever

Bear in mind the C-Max tank is quite small compared to say, my last car, a Citroen Xsara Picasso. 53 Litres (11.5 Gal) compared to 60 litres (Nearly 13.5 gal) It means the fuel goes down more quickly, even though you may not be using any more fuel. For what it's worth, I'm getting a little over 44 average with my 2.0 TDCi. A bit down on 2.0HDi Pic (48 or so) which admittedly only had 90 BHP compared to the 136 of the C-Max!

Tetley74Got a 2005 1.6 TDCi, the gause does not move in a linear way, drops fairly steadily between full and 1/2 full then drops like a stone to 1/4 and then takes ages to get to empty.Ours averages about 44 mpg according fuel confuser which includes holiday trips and running around, normally reset it a couple of times a year. 400 mile trips normally mean about 56/7 mpg but on a run into ahead wind this can easilly drop to under 50 mpg, guess its the shape of the car. Around town its probably 38 to 40 mpgbut never really checked. The display is pretty accurate according to a check carried out on a tank to tank filling on a holiday trip. All in all been very happy during the 5 years we have had the car.

Unlike a lot of petrol engined vehicles the diesels do appear to benefit from having a K&N panel filter fitted instead of the paper
I found it gave an improvement in MPG of arounf 10% overall so in my case it paid for itself in less than 6 months motoring
