I passed my test in a VW beetle in 1958, started off with a 1936 Morris 10 with built in hydraulic jacks! next was a 1935 Riley Falcon with fluid flywheel and preselect gearbox, and headlamps like buckets, used to do the overnight run from Lossiemouth to Ely Cambs. took about 23 hours, fun to drive. Since then through Minis , Cortinas, Vauxhall Firenza, Renaults various, Rovers old and new, Jaguars old style XJS's, Honda CRV traded it for a Civic type R, lovely little car, Primera, Mitsubishi Charisma, Peugeots and now C-Max. Probably some I have forgotten, Must have cost me thousands over the years, but I have enjoyed driving every one of them.
Cheers all
Tony
1934 Morris 8 - £5. I swear one of the pistons was made of wood! Had a phenomenal oil consumption, had to carry cans of oil around with me. Never broke down;
1935 Riley Falcon - £7 10s. Preselector gearbox and automatic (centrifugal) clutch. Stopped by police at a roadblock in N Devon (Black Cat Crossroads) one day after Great Train Robbery. Searched car but not the boot! Car wouldn't start so cops had to push it up a slight slope. Very heavy car. Never broke down, though dynamo never really worked and I had to use a relay of batteries;
1935 Morris 8 - £7. Returned to seller after serious crack in chassis discovered. I had bought it in the dark!!
1935 Riley Kestrel Six. Never broke down;
1953 Riley 1.5. Never broke down;
1934 Riley 9 Kestrel. Preselector gearbox, automatic clutch, knobs on floor by driver to adjust both foot and hand-brakes; knob under steering column to send a squirt of oil to all chassis and steering lubricatioin points. Broke down once because I ignored the warning 'ticks' from the electric SU fuel pump;
1955 Riley 1.5. Never broke down;
1966 Rover 2000. Great car, bit underpowered, but the rust got it;
1976 Renault 5. Not bad, but it died from rust at 60,000 miles (but two of the original Michelins were OK). Broke down on M3 at night - cooling expansion vessels should not be glass!
A Mk III Cortina - vile car;
1968 VW Beetle. Great car, but a bit basic. Never broke down;
1979 Audi 100 GL5. Kept having trouble with blocked injectors. Eventually found out it was caused by a rusting pipe from fuel filler cap to the tank. I found out when I noticed my shoes were wet! Never broke down;
1989 Mitsubishi Colt 1500 GLX. New! Broke down once - carb jet blocked;
1992 Ford Transit SWB 2 litre petrol. I loved this! Never broke down;
1995 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Ghia. Not bad, but crappy equipment level even though a Ghia. Broke down - seized front offside brake caliper;
2005 Focus C-Max. Current car.Also:
1978 Honda 250 Super Dream. OK, but anonymous;
1979 Moto Guzzi Le Mans MkII 850. Great, but uncomfortable. Took a spill on this one;
1980 Ducati Darmah 900. Straight through Conti pipes made a beautiful noise, at night you could see flames if you lookde up them;
1980 Moto Guzzi Spada Royale. A bit of a tractor;
1983 Ducati Pantah 500. Great looking bike, but a bit underpowered;
1990 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. Absolutely great! Had some fabulous trips in France with this. At one hotel the proprieter asked the British owner of a BMW 7 to take his car out of the garage so I could get the bike in.Cheers

Spookie story: Where I grew up, in Putney SW London, there still is a London Mini centre hence the two Minis. The first I bought off my Mum which she bought from the Mini centre and the second I traded in also at the Mini Centre. The spookie bit, My wife worked on the railwayas well as her dad and her Uncle. After going out a few months and getting engaged we got chatting only to find that before joing the railway, here dad used to own a shop. Not any old shop, but a car shop... Yep they owned they owned the London Mini centre at the time both my Mum and I bought both Mini's

1998 Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi (Fantastically fun car, loved it, couple of electrical gliches, hey its French!) Rolled it into a ditch, gutted.
1992 Ford Escort 1.4 Ghia estate (cheap after trashing the 306, good for chucking my canoeing gear in the back)
1999 Ford Mondeo 1.8 Zetec
2001 Lexus IS200 Sport (Loved it, all JD Power say is true!, just couldn't afford to run it.)
2000 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia (Crap car, needed a cheapy as the Lexus was traded in for the Mrs' MINI Cooper
2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Ghia X (Great car, more toys than the Lexus, more practicality than the Lexus, 1/3 cost of the Lexus, 1/3 the fun of the Lexus!!)
The Mrs MINI sold for the C-Max. Collected today, 2004 1.8 Ghia.

The most unreliable car out of all them may be a surprise, but the Golf was dreadful! Had a new engine and gearbox by 18000 miles, to be fairit was the dealer that broke the gearbox while the engine was being replaced. Plus other bits didn't do as they should, but this is a C-Max site, so I'll be quiet now

As have retired from flying now back pursuing my other love - motorsport, currently drivingin historic rally's with an ex works Audi Sport Quattro, MG Metro 6R4 & later this year on the historic RAC, a Lancia Delta S4 (subject to it being finished, it eats money !).
1988Suzuki SJ413 (samouraï) parents got it for me reasoning that it was so slow, I couldn't possibly get into trouble.
1994 Renault Clio Williams (it was therapy, to get over the 1st car...)
1998 VW Golf MK4 1.6 Comfort line
2001 Renault Sport Clio 172 Mk1 (love hot renault and it runs in the familly, my father having run a Renault 5 Alpine)

2004 Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Trend (Wify is driving that now, with our 3 year old...)
1998 Ford Ka... What can I say. Bangernomics have prevailed. Costs nothing to buy,run and insure, I can rag it everywere without getting into (too much trouble) - I finally understand the reasoning my parents had with my first car! - and when it dies, I just get another one to run into the ground! Fun times.
Mk 1 ford escort (Yellow but rusted to death)
BL Metro (worst car I ever owned had it from new but spent most of its time in the garage)
Fiat Panda (Steering failed)
Fiat Uno (stolen 1989 - can't think why someone would steal it - D218MNF)
Ford XR2 (baby came, had to sell it)
Ford Escort TD (ran it into the ground - something 80k on the clock - died with gearbox trouble)
Fiat Tipo (not good - had a habit of just stopping)
Ford Orion (TD but previous owner had fitted a turbo to it)
Ford Mondeo ..boring
2 x Nissan Primeras - good cars never let me down but wrapped both of them round gateposts - didn't matter they were company cars !
Toyota Avensis..boring
Ford Focus. Had it for a week or two - couldn't get on with it.
Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 (best car I've ever had but cost me a fortune to run - once wound it up to 120 MPH on the M62)
Ford Mondeo...boring sold it back to the garage I bought it from.
Ford Focus TDCI - liked this car
Ford Focus estate (was like the tardis - fitted loads of stuff into it)
Ford C -Max Ghia TDCI- got rid - couldn't get on with the EPB !
Ford S - Max x 2 ( nicve motors but too big 0 can't think whyI had 2 though
Ford C-max Titanium 2 TDCI (current)
