Unhappy Problem with the ignition key and auto gearbox

I've had an intermittent problem for months now with my ignition key. My 2007 CMax 2.0 has an auto box, and sometimes I can't get the key out of the ignition when the selector is in PARK.
I took it to the local main dealer, who checked it out and advised "no fault found". They said it was probably a failing ignition barrel, so 214 for a new barrel and key was the proposed fix.
That was fitted last week, and all was ok initially but the problem has returned just as before. After turning the engine back on and off a dozen or so times I can usually eventually get the key out.
The key can only come out when it is turned fully anticlockwise, it's that last click which doesn't appear to happen when its playing up.
I'm figuring there must be a sensor/switch on the shift mechanism or gearbox which is signalling to a solenoid on the key barrel when it's in PARK, which allows the final anticlockwise click on the barrel.
I made an attempt at the weekend to remove all the plastic trim around the shift mech so I could see if there was anything obviously wrong (dislodged sensor, wiring or connector faults), but I stopped before I did any damage. It's quite a puzzle just getting the plastic off.
Anyone got any words of wisdom for me?

According to help, Most of the time we have this problem of igniting the key because due to the weather conditions there sometimes occur a jam in the things. So we need to put some extra effort to ignite them.
