I have copied this from my post on another part of the forum.I've recently done a 301 mile trip with 298 of them on clear motorways and a small amount on dual carriageway and I averaged 33.64mpg (the trip computer showed a very accurate 34 mpg). I did not drive economicaly , on purpose, so as to get the worst case result. I would have got better mpg if I had keep my speed on the motorway down to about 65mph instead of 80mph.I have now averaged 29.49 mpg over 1114 miles. I had averaged, before this trip, 28.83 which is what I will expect to get from now on in normal driving. This, based on 28.83 mpg, means I am getting 17.63% less than the quoted 35 mpg.I always fill up to the brim, but I also keep very accurate mpg figures. I only fill up before a run as otherwise a fill up from the petrol station's cool tanks will expand out of the car's tank on a warm day.

Have you tried the auto-park / park assist (whatever it's called)?
I was a bit nervous trying this for the first time, but it never fails and leaves the car 3/4 inches from the kerb every time.
Hi again, I do not have auto park on my car, one thing I do miss compared with my previous Audi is when the windows ar half open and you leave the car, they do not close when the remote key is pressed to close, you have to close them manually mostly with the ignition on. I find the keyless ignition a bit of a nuisance too, for example, when the car is parked and the door is opened the radio switches off. Similarly, when sitting in the car waiting for my wife to come back to the car from shopping , after what seems very few minutes, the radio switches off automatically. Is it me or iss it just a niggly thing?

On the MPG front, im getting 50-51 now on an 04 2.0tdci, and thats a mixture of motorway and around town. Had a few problems with the car when i first got it from Evans-Halshaw, but they were really good, put it right and now its a dream to drive.

Hi Bluenose,
I think part of the problem is that you've not read your manual. Global opening and closing of the windows is possible if you know how. Try reading from around page 44 and you will see how to do it. With the key-less entry it is so simple to use.
The radio on the otherhand I wish I didn't have to switch it back on again to keep it running though!

On the fuel front i find the 1.6 thirsty. my old 1.8 TDCi was better. the car now has 18000 miles on. round town, 40-45mpg (1.8 48)
Just come back from Austria, 2500 mile round trip. full load. cruising at 80mph driving overnight so the roads are quiet worst 42mpg ( 1.8 46) best 51mpg ( 1.8 61mpg)
interestingly it was always bad with the cruise set. all figures are with the aircon on.
I think a lot of it could be down to the gear ratio's on the 6 speed box ( 1.8 was a 5 speed)
other than that I still like it.
did 75000 in the 1.8 with no problems other than servicing, and fuel no unscheduled stops at the dealers. not really expecting any issues with the 1.6. but it will be interesting to see what it ages like with all the electrics thats in this one.

I think the new cars are geared for emissions rather than fuel economy.

My 1.8TDCi would regularly return 60-65mpg on long motorway trips with the aircon off, driving at 60mph. The best I've done on similar trips in my Grand C-Max is 57mpg at 60mph, though that's with cruise on.

Getting back to windscreens, my 9 month old Grand C-Max took a hit from a stone on the windscreen the other day, leaving a small chip with some small cracks. I'm hoping the glass people can repair it - I've heard all sorts of horror stories about inferior non-ford screens being fitted, and having all sorts of problems with the electrics afterwards.
