ive just had my egr valve replaced at the price of 480.00 to my 1.8tdci
the performance of the car has inproved greatly however i know have a whisle evey time i rev the engine before changing gear.
sounds like a dump valve has been put on.
is this normal will it damage the engine or is it because the egr was so clogged up with crap?

I'd start by checking all the hose connections are tight especially any relating to the turbo

Agree with Richard. One of mine wasn't tight enough and it popped off when driving and the vehicle lost nearly all power on a dual carriageway.
