Well here is my story!

This I have to admit is the first Ford carwe have owned
Many times offered Ford cars but never the right time, though mylate Grandad loved them. Ford Cortinas a plenty

Anyway, what of the Focus C-Max?
As a family car, it is well designed for a family with small to medium children.
Plenty of storage spaces and the ride height is perfect as is the drive. So far she has done... 118,000 miles and is still got plenty of punch

Now to start with the bad bits that I have encountered.
Every 75,000 requires DPF additive (reduces emitions) and this is a dealer or very specialist garage job.
Ford servicing can be hit and miss and if anything out of the norm does go bang, then a dealer or again a very specialist garage with the right diagnostic eqipment will only be able to help.
Example being the our fuel pump died and took out one of the injectors. A major expense.
Our local garage had no problem in sorting the fuel pump but did not have access to the computer used by Fordhence the car was out of action far longer than it needed to be.
Need a spare key? That will cost in total 150+ (still yet to sort out)

Good bits time:
On ours we have 6 speed manual box, leather seats fronts being heated & drivers is electric, cruise control, quick clear windscreen & for the little ones a built in DVD player in the roof with sound transmitted to wireless headphones.

We have already done a family holiday last year to North Yorkshire with the need for roof rack. Not bad for a family with a 6 & 2 year old and all the stuff you could think of.
Relaxed driving and the knowledge the my family are safe makes the ownership worth while.

I think that if your local Ford outlet are ok and they do a great job, then you have no worries at all. I'm lucky that a quick blast down the M3 I can take the car to a true Ford indepndant that really know ther Fords inside and out as they specalise in performance tuning but have no problems servicing "normal" stock and pretty quick as well.

I think that sums up our ownership, but if I think of anything else, I'll edit this post.

hmm i really enjoy the car but the mechanical niggles are starting to annoy me I found a nice renault espace this morning and i might give that a go. I should point out that i will keep the cmax as i enjoy driving her but i need something reliable for holidays, trips to the coast etc.
Thankfully i am able to afford to run 2 family cars if i could only manage one the max would go.

As to the extra (spare) key see if you have an automotive locksmith near you. This is not always a Ford only (expensive) job

Lawe... Can I ask how much the fuel pump & repair set you back?

My 54 2L TDCi Zetec is at 71k now, and it's one of the failures I dread most!

I've seen no suggestion that this failure is more of a problem in these engines though.

A useful resource on here would be not just the common (and uncommon!) issues but also an idea of the cost of fixes, now there are many C-Max out of warranty.

Mines`s gonna need the 75,000 soon so I`m going to have to bit the bullet & take it to fraud.I`ll go to the dealer in Tamworth NOT Chambers of Sutton as they damaged the car the 1st & last time i took it there.
The local independant garage I normally use might do the job if I explain what need to be done.
Can any one let me know exactly what needs/has to be done ?

Just read what you quoted for the fuel pump repair. Is this the fuel injection pump or the fuel tank pump.

Read my post about what I have been quoted in france/

3500 euros for total repair charge

I'd be interested to know exactly what you had changed!!!

Awaiting your reply.

Have a good evening.

RE keys, all you need is a blank cut to match and you can reprogram it yourself as shown in the manual. blank keys are avaiable on amazon for 25 to 30 pounds.
Nothing gained nothing lost

The programme it yourself is only for the remote unlocking and NOT for the starting
