My 1.6 TDCi "pinks " when pulling away, I'm keen to know if anybody else has had this problem and any fixes/cures. All the bits under the bonnet/exhaust seem to be in place. Use diesel from reputable filling stations, nearly 60 mpg at 70mph!!!
Has anybody any comments on the "poor" headlamp light output, mine are absolutely........... adequate. There are not the HID type just the ordinary H4/7 or whatever

Diesel doesn't pink that is only with pre ignition in petrol. There was another post a while back though I can't remember the fix for it

Try autobulbs or even Halfords for various improvef H3 & H7 bulbs

Gotta agree with Richard on this pinking is a petrol problem which involves premature ignition of the fuel vapour before the spark which is where the noise comes from diesels are compression engines so there is no spark just the diesel reaching its flash point through heat and pressure. Having said all of that if it isnt pinking the noise is coming from somewhere and it must sound like pinking. I am struggling to imagine a symptom, can you explain it more clearly.

I'm fully aware that only petrols "pink", but that is the only sound that I can equate the noise to from the engine when I pull away, somebody mentioned that it could be the little end bearings on the con rods; as the noise is a very metallicy one of of similar pitch .
There is no loss of power nor smoking exhaust when puling away, other that a bit of turbo lag.

As the 1.6 TDCI has the variable geometry turbo there should be no noticible turbo lag Well ther isn't anything I've noticed on our 54 LX version. The variable geometry allows the turbo to spin faster at lower speed and to vary the specific air flow rateat the higher revs

Did you ever get to the bottom of the pinking sound? I've just bought a 1.6 TDCI and it does exactly the same.

I had the 'Pinking Noise with my 1.6 TDci, spoke to the Local Independent Peugeot Specialist about it (It's the same engine in the Peugoet and Citreon on a Bosch Power Train). He says Peugoet's do the same it's due to the pre injection prior to the main injection and with the reduced sound proofing in the lower engine models is more noticable.

However, having said that on giving mine back to the Local Fraud Dealer (under Warranty) for variuos faults, they actually reduced the noise level of the 'pinking', apparently the volume was due to a split pipe.

Do I believe them?, All I care about it is the C-Max is quieter

I changed my headlight bulbs for Phillips Extreme.Got them from
www.autobulbsdirect.com
Theynoffer good prices & very quick delivery.
I`m really pleased with these bulbs as they are much brighter.I also put in Phillps sides too so you want the H4 & H7 set.

I have just been on the Autoexpress site & for the second time in 3 years the Phillips Extreme bulbs have come out as best product.
I agree with them.

Well I've found the cause of the pinking noise. Theexhaust downpipe has a hairline crack in it where the support bracket is (i.e. right underneath the car). Looks like I'll have to remove the downpipe and weld it.
